CS:GO became one of the most desired and popular releases of 2012, and it still holds this position till now.
What was the reason for such popularity? Was it for the first time after the release of Global Offensive that this game gained so much popularity? And is every part of the series as successful as the last one? Let’s see.
In fact, the popularity of the entire series of Counter-Strike is explained by the beginning of its history. Before becoming the standalone product, it was a modification for Half-Life – a project by Valve Corporation.
A couple of fans that were excited about their favourite game, created their own concept on the basis of what they liked. As this was a fan work, it was shared with the community for free, and that was one of the main factors of popularity. Players liked it and shared it so much that a great developer and publisher company turned their attention to it.
But another aspect that caused such a success of the project was the concept. The basis of the gameplay lies in competition between two groups of players: gunmen and special forces. Depending on a map they need to do certain tasks.
For the matches not to be the same, there were introduced several maps for one task. CS:GO has brought even more variativity to what Counter-Strike 1.6 had. There were tasks available for play: Hostage Rescue, Bomb Planting and Defusing, and VIP Assassination. The last one was not in favor, though, gamers liked the first two types more.
Finally, we can say there are two games of the series that became really popular and had success. It’s Counter-Strike 1.6 and CS:GO.
The last update of the first game is generally accepted to be the ‘classic’ one, because it has the most in common with the initial idea of two fans that developed the mod. And Global Offensive received such favorable reviews from one hand because it was based on the classic, from the other – because it’s more colorful and bright to play.
